Call for proposals: Circulation of European Literary Works 2026

Posted on Posted in News - Releases

Τhe Call for the Circulation of European Literary Works 2026 has been launched with the aim of strengthening the transnational circulation and translation of literary works across Europe. With a budget of €5 million and the goal to support around 40 projects, this call under the Creative Europe Programme focuses particularly on works written in languages that are less widely translated.

Eligible projects should cover the translation, publication, promotion and distribution of at least five works of fiction (including novels, short stories, poetry, children’s and young adult literature, and illustrated books) that meet the criteria of the Programme. Applications may be submitted either by a single organisation or by a consortium (at least two partners) and can fall under three scales:

  • Small scale: ≥ 5 translated works – up to ~€100,000

  • Medium scale: ≥ 11 works – up to ~€200,000

  • Large scale (for consortia only): ≥ 21 works – up to ~€300,000

The call also addresses key EU policy priorities, such as equality, inclusion, sustainability (green transition), digital transformation, and fair working conditions for translators (including visibility on the book cover and fair remuneration).

Its significance is highlighted by the fact that each year, approximately 500 literary titles are translated from about 40 source languages into 30 target languages, promoting Europe’s cultural and linguistic diversity.

The deadline for applications is 29 January 2026. Publishers, translation agencies, and cultural organisations active in the book sector are encouraged to get informed and prepare their proposals early.
