This is a clip from the Fablevision Studios documentary, Riverside Solidarity. The Riverside Solidarity Project was a programme of artistic residencies between Fablevision in Govan, and the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre in Gdansk, Poland (Nadbałtyckie Centrum Kultury), in 2017-8. Artists explored how to be inclusive when planning post-industrial regeneration – key was community interest in city planning.

The project involved artists T.s. Beall, Ben Parry, Lee Ivett, Andy McAvoy and John Mullen. It was funded by Creative Scotland and in partnership with University of the West of Scotland. Magda Zakrzewska Duda was the director and Roman Sebastyański the coordinator.

This is a short clip from an interview with the artist and researcher T.s. Beall. Beall works with a variety of communities, developing socially-engaged, long-term ‘durational’ project, often dealing with issues around heritage and women’s roles in industry.

Beall is running an artWalk event tomorrow (09/03) in Govan, for International Women’s Day, hosted by Glorious Govan and the Kinning Park Complex. It celebrates Mary Barbour and women of the Clydeside. You can find out more here: www.facebook.com/events/2261666334120807/

Beall is currently working with Fablevision again, this time as the Govan lead artist for the Creative Europe project MemoryofWater-EU Creative Europe

Memory of Water is an artist-led project which focuses on how to re-make post-industrial waterfront cities and towns. GDRT are very interested in this project, as it compliments issues and opportunities we are examining ourselves.

Yet another example of artists leading the way with post-industrial shipyards!

Amsterdam’s NDSM is a historic shipyard turned creative hotspot in the north of the city. It originally opened its doors in 1894 before merging with another shipping company and moving to the current site in the 1920’s due to the rapid expansion of the lucrative industry. It closed in 1984 owing to the crash in oil prices and was squatted in throughout that decade.

Today it is one of the most culturally significant and creatively diverse areas in Europe with everything from affordable studio space to MTV’s Holland office. Applications have opened this month for a new artist residency “Treehouse” costing €280 a month which offers communal living, exhibition space and an environment to expand creative skills.

The great inernational team of artists working with Memory of Water, gathered for the first time for a recidency in Levadia, Greece. MemoryofWater-EU Creative Europe Kulturrådet Jonas Myrstrand representing Sweden.
